Repairing curb rash or purchasing these?

Post by speedyt5 »

All 4 of my rims have curb rash, has anyone tried to repair their rims themselves. This link shows a very good way to do it, but it seems like a lot of work to do on 4 rims full of curb rash from the past 15 years. So here are some options..
1. Purchase a refurbished set here, pretty good prices http://www.carid.com/2000-volvo-s70-factory-wheels/
2. Try this method which looks awesome but time consuming… http://www.autopia-carcare.com/realwhda.html
3. Maybe just get some silver paint and paint over the curb rashed part of the rim?
4. Get a mobile repair guy to come and fix them.

One problem I have is that I have one bent rim, its not bad enough to notice unless the tire on that rim gets very worn and the rim is on the front of the car. Otherwise its unnoticeable. Thoughts?

I think I would try to refinish my own wheels...that or buy a used set from someone. You can put it in the want ads section. Even though the prices are pretty good, a set of 4 would still be pretty expensive. The other option is to replace the bent one. Some places could straighten the bent rim but more and more these places don't want to do that- a local guy said, he kept breaking rims trying to repair them so he quit doing them.
