Internal Dashboard light burnt out

Post by desol8tor »

Purely cosmetic but was wondering if there's an easy fix...

Basically a portion of the dash is dark (when lights are used), so I'm thinking a backlight is shot...any way to get in there easily and what bulb I should be looking for?

This is for a '94 850 wagon.

thanks

I assume you are talking about the instrument cluster with the tach and the speedometer.

See the threads on replacing the odometer gears for guidance as to how to get the instrument panel out of the car. I essentially involves removeing the dash cap and releasing a couple of clips that hold the cluster in.

Might I suggest that you replace every bulb in the panel once it is out. The bulbs that backlight the panel are quite common, any Autozone will have them. The bulb that illuminates the time/temp display is rare but available at IPD for only a couple of bucks.

If your odometer gear has not yet broken it is a good time to replace it (or those) as well as there are only two kinds of Volvo odometer gears, those that have broken and those that will.
