Thought I will share this impressive information read on an European forum. It doesn't mean it applies to all engines, but surely it brings a new light over which years the DIM can be swapped.

That swap wont work for 2002 MY without reprogramming.
That works because CAN configuration for 2003 and 2004 MY are compatible.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)
