Aloha all,
I have a 2002 v40 that will start but not idle. The engine sensor fuse keeps blowing and every time that happens there is a smokey smell. I notice that the smoke is comming from a sensor on the air intake tube right befor the turbo. Does anyone know what this sensor is called? It appears to be crimped on so I don't know if it's something that can be changed. Sorry it's so deep down in there I can get a photo right now .
Part identification?

I believe that is the PTC (Positive Thermal Coefficient) Element.

It heats up allowing condensing gasses to pass into the PCV system. I don't think it's related to your current issues. It hose connections from it should however be clear. If it's not, you should clean it out even if it requires a drill bit to do so.

I don't know if it'll run without it, but I can't imagine it won't. Why not unplug it and try? Not the hoses, but just the electrical connector.
It will likely trip the CEL, but that's got to be better than smoke and fire.
I would not recommend leaving it unplugged indefinitely. Perhaps you can find one at a pick-n-pull or somewhere else on-line.
