2005 XC90 T6 Oil Leak

Post by mikmod »

Hello
I have 2005 XC90 T6 2.9, 105000 miles, LPG BRC P&D
I need help with locate all oil leak.
Oil leak occurs in the winter, now in summer is minimal.
I suspected the filter seal, but now I see that it is much higher.
I remove the oil trap.
O right side clamp was quite loose and and the hole was slightly clogged.

Is it enough to replace oil trap o-rings

and tighten the clamp - '12' on engine side?
A leak may have another reason?
I see oil on dipstick at the entrance to the engine block.

Doesn't it seem to be coming from the top of the engine? Maybe the long pcv hose going near the oil fill cap was split, or even the oil fill cap seal is gone. While the oil trap is out, don't forget to blow inside the lower block hole exposed, to check the return passage inside the oil pan is free.

First, clean all the oil from the front of the motor. Since you have the oil trap removed, replace hoses 12, 13, and 14 if they are cracked or mushy. Otherwise, yes just tighten the clamps.. It looks like your oil cap seal has probably been leaking/blowing, so check it to see if it is flexible, or dry and stiff. Also, you can replace the o-ring at the bottom of the dipstick tube, and the o-ring on the dipstick itself.

By the way, what was the condition of your charge air hose, they often get oil soaked and may leak from splits and small cracks.
