Hi I currently own a 98 V70, but I am looking at a very nice 1992 740 wagon. Owner states engine was replaced. I looked at the car today, and the body and interior are very nice but in concerned about the engine swap.
The block is painted red and its def. a Volvo engine, but how can I identify exactly what engine it is? The sticker on the timing cover is kinda scratched up; is there another place to look for the engine number on the block?
What are some things in general to look at on this vintage (1992) wagons? The body has no visible rust, tires look good and interior is good to very good. The motor started right up and idle seemed even. Prob will test drive tomorrow.
Any general information you could give would be great, as I am not that familiar with this model and year.
Considering buying a 1992 740 with replaced motor

How can you tell what year a Redblock is just by looking at it?SonicAdventure wrote:1992 740 wagon...identify exactly what engine it is?
FAQ: Basic info on Volvo Redblocks.
"Here, all the way in, over by the firewall.
The number you almost don't see there, is 82. which is the year it was made."
