Got P0442 need to make a smoke tester

Post by clifford06 »

Greetings . Got a pesky P0442/CEL . J hose change 2 years ago, but seems to look OK. Have check paperwork for brand. Fuel pump was replaced. Car sat 13 months before "rebirth". Don't want to spend time / money replacing working parts. How do I go about plugging into EVAP system to do a DIY cigarette smoke test ( brand undecided) ? Engine on or off ? Any direction to post or write up is appreciated.

Here is a good write up on some of the ways to track this down and fix it:

Robert's DIY smoke tester video:
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
