1997 850 speedo swap to mph

I see a similar thread for a 2000, which I expect to be a bigger challenge due to more interlinked systems.

I was talking to my brother who lives in the US and thinks the old 850 I am working on may be a good candidate for his daughters' first car. Major problem is this car has only kph on the speedo. How hard is it to swap to an mph version or is it just not possible?

Piece of cake on an 850, just snag a MPH cluster out of a salvage yard or pick-n-pull and plug it in. I would do it after a US domestic title has been issued and then just kick the can down the road on the mileage discrepancy that will occur as a result of the swap. There may need to be some programming changes made if it has the trip computer and you try to match that with a MPH cluster.

I've got spare clusters, I would donate one, not sure though if any have a good odometer gear I would have to check.

Thanks erik11. I'll keep the offer in mind. I'll need to check on the trip computer. Don't think it has. It has the LCD readout for temperature and time, but don't think a trip computer. I'll check and get back to you on that one. Biggest hurdle will be my brother lives in California near San Francisco, so not sure the car can even be imported there. Neither of us have a clue on the rules as yet.

Checked speedo cluster and it only has time and temp in the LCD readout.
