Flex Pipe

Post by kippster41493 »

Is there somewhere where I can get just the flex pipe? The rest of the pipe looks fine, and I was able to find a converter by itself instead of buying the whole down pipe, and converter assembly. I was under my car yesterday replacing the tie rods and took a better look at my exhaust which I had "fixed" at an exhaust shop. Which by that I mean they straight piped it where the converter would be and did some bird crap welding which left holes and piles of weld. They said they only thing wrong was that the previous owner cut the converter out, and put an over sized pipe with crush clamps on it, which it was, but he didn't seem to notice the flex pipe falling off.

I can find the whole assembly for a fair price, just looking for cheaper because of pretty tight budget. I haven't called any parts stores yet to see what they can get (I used to work at advance auto and we did sell just flex pipes but I'm not sure about this specific vehicle.) I haven't done exhaust before so this would be my first shot at it, if there are any tips they would be greatly appreciated. :D

If you just need a flex pipe Amazon has them for $17 and up. There's multiple flex pipes that are all the same inner diameter but just check the length against what you need.

Again this is my first exhaust job, I take it the flex pipes aren't actually that specific to a vehicle just make sure it fits essentially?

If you enter your model info in your garage on amazon for example, the available parts will be listed that "fit" the exhaust diameter, you just have to figure out the length of pipe you require and that may vary since flex pipes are sometimes replaced. You may need more or less length. An auto store may have a part # for the flex pipe but as you know the part listed may fit a number of apps and in consideration of the alterations you're already aware of you're going to have to measure it out to be sure. How are you planning on joining the pipes? Welding, brazing, clamping? That's another consideration.

For the Amazon link go to the top of the page under quick Navy, scroll down to give back to MVS and you'll see the right column for the amazon link.

Awesome info PS78! I plan on take the down pipe and back completely off the vehicle to weld it all properly.

Good luck with it kippster, hope it goes smooth. Exhaust leaks drive me nuts.
