Hello. First, my name is Austin. Thanks for having me here.
Anyways. My 2001 S80 is cranking, but not starting? I've had multiple people come and look, but none can get it to start.
I've tried jumping it off, replacing spark plugs, and even changed one of the coil packs. On One I had pulled out, the spring just fell right out. I've tried unplugging the battery for 20 minutes, both the ground cable and +/- cable, no dice. Jumping it off just makes the starter spin faster. With the spark plug covers off, I can see the timing belt is spinning.
A friend with a code reader showed signs for a spark plug, and a code for a vacuum leak that I've had since I bought the car with 186k miles.
For the sake of sanity, I changed also the crankshaft position sensor with a new part from advanced auto parts. Still nothing. I've read that a distributor or rotor cap would cause an issue with no starting, but the coil pack wires just run straight to the computer.
I try giving gas when starting car, but no smell of gasoline makes me wonder. I released the blue cap on the fuel injector and tried cranking it, which made gas spray everywhere. So the fuel lines are working. The starter is spinning.
But I'm still getting no spark when testing. Is there something I'm missing? I've never had an issue driving or starting this car in the 5k miles I've put on it. Any help or advice would be great. Thank you

Check voltage at your spark plug coils. One side of coil should have 12v. OR pull spark plug and lay on engine connected to coil and watch for spark while cranking engine, should see spark plug firing ,run compression test on all cylinders, wet and dry test, then you know if internal working of engine is good or not.only need 3 things to run a engine, compression ,fuel, ignition (spark) and timing of engine has to be correct. Got spark, compression, fuel pressure to injectors, next check timing belt. OR if belt has never been changed, you nay want to check it first. Timing is very critical on volvo, interference engine, timing belt breaks,so does the engine, catastrophic failure. ..
Sorry, the issue was determined that the ECU relay was missing. Nobody thought to check for a fuse that wasn't there. Strange how the car ran and drove all the time without the ECU relay. I'm thinking sabotage. Later on, I had an issue with a ground wire being loose and causing electrical failure and hesitation with a blinking check engine light.
These cars are very fickle things it seems.
