Replaced Alternator, belt won't fit, common errors?
2004 v70 I just replaced the alternator on my V70. No matter how hard I crank the tensioner pulley I can't get the belt on. Close, but no go. I am wondering if there are common errors in reassembly of alternator, A/c, or PS pump that would cause slight misalignment? My receipt indicates the correct belt (Dayco 6060724), I am going to dig through the trash for the belt "wrapper" in case there was an error.

It is easy to ride the belt on the ridge on the crank pulley, which will prevent it from going on. Are you routing it right?
Compare it to old to see if its within 0.5 cm in length matching.

I am using the routing where the belt goes from the crank pulley, over the alternator pulley, under the A/C then straight up to the P/S. The old belt was torn and I threw it away.

I had this belt on once before, prior to discovery of a bad Alternator pulley. It seems to have fit.

I found on my 2000 C70 that if I bought a belt from Advance Auto, the one they called out for my engine was ALWAYS a couple of mm too short to get on the car. Happened twice. Both times I solved the problem by going to a NAPA store and buying their belt, which is a little longer. I don't have the direct replacement information in front of me, but that's what I remember. I advise you find out the exact length of your Dayco and then see what NAPA calls out and see if it's a little longer.

I think I am closing in on the problem, and it does have to do with belt length (the belts I am using are from Advance, but they are the Dayco brand, not Driveworks). I began a new post. It seems that the used alternator I used from a T6 engine has a larger pulley on the alternator. I am going to try a T6 belt. Dayco lists a different belt for V70 & T6.

Picked up belt spec'd for T6, it went on just like in the show and tell videos on YouTube. So. the problem must have been the larger pulley on the T6 alternator. I was slow on the uptake because Hollander said both alternators were the same, I just assumed the pulleys were the same. Plus, originally thought my problem was a bad tensioner pulley. I replaced that and a new V70 belt fit fine. For about 30 seconds, then it threw the original V70 alternator pulley right off the alternator. "I don't like it, it's quiet", "Yeah, too quiet".
