Are the 1st Gen XC90's Mystery Machines?

Post by cdscycleandatv »

Are the XC90's really that mysterious? I mean the XC90 does display the VOLVO insignia, and heck mine even has a T5 in it. The T5 appears to be a very popular engine, and there are a ton of upgrades for the T5 in other VOLVO models. So what the heck happened to the XC90 or am I jumping to conclusions. Just about every post I have seen on what sounds to be a small repair has only had 1 or 2 replies. So again, what the heck!!! 70,000+ members on this forum you would think there would be more replies to XC90 questions!!

While it's true much of the XC90 is just different packaging of common Volvo parts shared with S80s and V70s, that which is specific to the XC90 can be a PITA. Also, the drivetrains differentiate the types of owners. Those who have the 2.5T FWD, will have the most "normal" Volvo experience. Add AWD-add complexity. T6=horrendous experience due to transmission failure, Early V8=engine problems and possible transmission problems. 3.2 is getting old enough to where READ assembly can put owners out of their happy place.

Overall, the XC90 is reliable. The quirks are shared in other forums. I spend more time here in the 850/70 forum due to owning two P80 cars.

Also, the "easy answer" is...All XC90s are in VIDA/VADIS, and that would be the easiest source for most info.

But, when the information is here, it's great.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
