I meant to ask about that actually - if the marks move, do I just turn them back to the correct position by hand?
Does it matter which direction you turn them?

It hasn't mattered with mine. It barely moved a tooth, so I just used a screwdriver on the bolts and nudged it back. The slack that it creates keeps the belt from going all the way on easily.
