How do I reset the information display?

Post by micah »

The information display on my 2005 S40 has started to display “ Time for regular service”, when I start the car. I did the oil change etc over the weekend and it is still coming on. How do I reset / turn off the display. There has got to be a way for a shade tree mechanic to clear this annoyance. Thank you,

I thought we had a sticky for that but apparently we don't:
1. With key out of the ignition, push down the trip odometer button and hold it.
2. Insert key into the ignition (and while still holding the trip odometer reset button down) move it to position II...
3. Keep holding it until you see the lamp blink, then let go of the trip reset button and everything...the service reminder light will now be reset.
Let us know if this did or did not work.

Hi, I tried your suggestion last night and again this morning. Sadly it didn't work. The message only clears when I tap the button on the side of the signal arm. Thank you for your suggestion, I'll try others you may offer.

This is the magic incantation that I use. Works best on a night with a full moon:

To reset the "time for regular service" message, the steps are:
- turn the ignition key to position I
- then press and hold the odometer reset button
- turn the key to position II
- hold the odometer reset button until the “I” message icon flashes
- quickly release the reset button and then turn the key to the off position.
Les is more.
