Did you ever resolve this issue? My 2008 XC90 has just recently started doing this. I'm pretty confident it is a wiring - electrical issue because once the codes are clear, the vehicle runs perfectly until the errors return several days later all at once.

Thanks for all the replies, they are very helpful. Unfortunately, I made an appointment with the volvo dealership but now my volvo won't start. I have the immobilization error. Any idea of how I can clear the codes to get the vehicle to start so I can drive it to the dealer?

Sounds like you have lost power to modules in the dash. On a 2008, you need VIDA to troubleshoot this.

Like i said i lost power to my ecm i linked a 12v power suply to a fuse 15 amp i think inline fuse to a module under my dash and it all worked again ..might not work in your case. .it cost me 1k bucks after said and done with volvos false Diagnostics to get paided 200 bucks .took it in to another.guy that fixed what volvo said to fix was not the problem 800 bucks later linked the problem to my cem or something like that not getting power ..so good luck

Volvo has had the vehicle for two (2) days. I had to have the vehicle towed there and dropped off. They claim there was not enough power for VIDA to read what was happening. They are ordering a CEM and won't have the vehicle ready until the part comes in. They are estimating 6 more days (can't do anything over the week-end). They are estimating $1500 and have NO LOANER vehicle for me. Welcome to OKC. I had to leave two voice messages just for someone to return my call.

Well I just received my car back! The OKC dealer could not find anything wrong with it . They ordered a new CEM module but when they tried to install it the car wouldn't recognize it, so they put the old one back in and the car worked fine once they reloaded the CEM. They couldn't reproduce any errors so I picked up the car and paid for a CEM reload and two hours of labor. If the errors reoccur, they will charge me for an additional two hours of labor. Hoping this was just a software bug.

Got the same message in my display with ABS light on. 2004 V70 T5 134k miles. Checked for codes, no codes found. Other symptoms, Odometer frozen, tripometer shows -----. Cruise control works. Reset the display using the button on the turn signal stick while turning the key on. Message returns within time. Checked front ABS sensors and they're clean. Traced front ABS sensor wires to plastic plugs near the firewall on each side. Pulled apart plugs and sprayed contacts with DeOxit. Plugged back together. On short 20 min ride to work this morning, no Brake Failure message. Will see on ride home later. If nothing changed, this message should come back on. Will report back later.

Brake failure message came back on while driving home. Looked up how to test the ABS sensors with a volt/ohm meter. Will test each for ohms and voltage this weekend.
