I ordered LED replacements for both the map lights in my 2004 v70.
The current part number from SuperBrightLEDs is "4210-CWHP6-V2: Cool White".
The stock tungsten lighting is too dim to be of much use.
But when inserted, the LEDs go on immediately - dimly, but you can see the glow even in daylight. When turned on, they are much brighter, of course. My concern is over a tiny but constant battery drain... not a good idea in my view.
Has anyone else experienced this? The entire UEM works perfectly, so there has to be a good ground up there, and the voltage that is turning on the LEDs must be tiny, as I cannot measure it even with a digital VOM that can measure hundredths of volts.

1982 240DL: Drove it 32 years and 1.5 million miles (sold, even still had mint leather!)
2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

The voltage is actually high but the current is minuscule
Even on bright, an LED like these pulls 1-2 watts tops, which would take about 18 months to pull your battery to 50%
As tony Soprano says..

I had the same issue and concern as you lol
the reason why they stay dim is because they need resistors
what I did was purchased another set of LED that have built in resistors like these http://www.ebay.ca/itm/141935848936?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT and I no longer have them dimly lit at all

No, sorry, this is a safety issue, not a battery drain issue.
I am of the opinion that a 1/8th to 1/10th as bright "off" state for a very bright LED maplight is a problem that needs repair in a Volvo v70, as the lights hamper the driver's ability to use the rear-view mirror without losing his/her night vision.
This matters little in cities and suburbs, which are lit up brighter than a pinball machine, but becomes an issue in more rural areas.
I'm declaring these "defective": superbightleds.com bulb 4219-CWHP6-V2

The fix for the recall is
Apply colour matching tape, PCV to LED. Charge $125
