Poor Starting D5
Poor Starting D5
Hi I have a S60 D5 which has recently developed poor starting. I thought that it may have been the heater plugs which I exchanged for new ,but to no avail. I have however noticed that the dashboard heater plug light only illuminates for a very short time, and this did not used to be the case. Can I set them to stay on longer or is there something else that may be the problem?

When you changed the heater plugs did you replace them with the same type? There are different types, some of which heat quicker than others so the dash light will go out sooner. It is also possible that new plugs of the original are heating faster than the old ones so that could be the reason.I thought that it may have been the heater plugs which I exchanged for new ,but to no avail.
Usually heater plugs don't give much trouble and I don't think that they would all go at the same time.
How many miles has the engine done? Have you ever had the injectors cleaned professionally? Poor spray patterns will cause bad starting.

1. Fuel fiter not dirty. 2. Use synthetic oil in the crankcase for easier cranking. 3. Use regularily diesel fuel conditioner that the truckers use to keep the gunk down. 4. Clean contacts on battery and starter to get full cranking power.
