Volvo VIDA Question - Key Software Download

Post by Steve H »

I have a 2008 Volvo S60 2.5T. I have a new Volvo cut key and transmitter ordered form eeuroparts.com with proof of ownership provided. I have a DICE unit and 2014 VIDA. It is my understand that you have to download software to sync a key and transmitter to the car. I have the 16 digit code with the new transmitter on the package. I realize my 2014 VIDA will not work for this and I will be subscribing for 3 days to the online Volvo VIDA to try to do this key and transmitter sync this weekend. I have the following 2 questions for anyone that knows.

1. Once I download the key and transmitter software to my computer can I later sync a new key to my car or must I subscribe and download again?

2. Does anyone have any pointers on how to check to see if any software updates need to be done to the car while I have the subscription of since the car is flawlessly running and performing would you just leave that alone?

Thank you for any help.

Thank you for you time in answering my questions. My gut said leave it alone regarding software updates since it is doing well. I will attempt the key this weekend. I hope I can get it done. I am down to 1 key and I have "grounded" the car since my son had a lanyard on his keys working landscaping and they fell out of his pocket and the lanyard drew them into the blades and shredded the remote, key and house key beyond recognition. I was looking for parts at the Local community college where he was mowing at. I just will not operate a car with only one key for the reason he just gave me. He lost the keys before and I purchased the replacement but never activated the new key and transmitter after his keys were found up our street where he left them on his toolbox of his truck and they slid off in the curve. At least I do not have to wait on a key this time. It took over 2 weeks to get the one I have to program.

I can. Not for all models though.
For some I need to get some information (via external programmer) before I can program keys via DiCE.

I have one more question. I have read where it is important to keep the battery voltage up when you are in position 2 with ignition during downloads. Can you do this with a battery charger hooked up to the battery or must you use another battery like you are jumping off the car? Thank you in advance for any help.

Key won't be programmed if voltage is low.

Usually good battery fully charged is enough. But if not charger or another car can be hooked like being jamped.
