I like TRW and remember the name from the 1960s, that's what I'll use.
Checked again and they had about 1/16" of play so I assume that it should be zero and the tie
rod ends need to be replaced - is that right?

Just to be sure I've got it right here, when I loosen the lock bolt on the inside there is no danger
of damaging the rack since the rack end has the other ball joint and can rotate freely? Might
move the boot a bit but that's fine, I assume.

It is driving great without any codes and nice power, shifting etc.
It has 107,100 + 63,400 = 170,500 miles with about 70K of those put on by my son.
We bought it on the 5th of June 2014 and that is 2 years, 2 months, and 15 days according
to the Internet!

We still need to do PCV and it would be nice to get the AC working.

To get the AC working you will likely need an evaporator core. Big job, the dash had to come out to get to in. If you decide to do the swap fit a cabin air filter kit to protect the new evaporator.

Is there a procedure for diagnosing the problem online somewhere, either written
or a video? There was one record of fixing a leak and toping it up many years ago.
I know that there is tons of information online, but I'm asking for a good one.

Changed the oil and filter today, and did a trans drain and fill, 110,350 miles indicated, 174,000 actual.

Trans fluid comes out a cross between pink and tanish brown color, will it ever just be pink?
This is the fourth drain and fill in about 70K miles and it is always this brownish color.

Failed the glove test today.

I'm going to do the Air Box Flap Mod soon and had a bit of trouble finding the thread telling how to do it:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 2&p=396582

I went from memory and bought a 1/4" 20, 3" long, stainless bolt, and the rest of
the parts in 1/4", got an acorn nut for the end and am going to glue it on to be
sure it doesn't loosen up.

I have the car drove it and it is a bit loud, seems to come from under near the front seats.
Seems to quiet down when warmed up, any known areas to look at before I go under for
a look?

Headliner is sagging down about 6", any simple fix?

It is running nice, smooth idle and shifting, nice power, no codes - I feel lucky!

Vac lines look really bad, if there is a how to for NA I'm interested - hard to find/reach, etc.?

It is very common for the weld to break right at the junction with the cat. 50 bucks at the muffler shop to patch it up.

Vac lines on the NA are pretty easy: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=65002

Ok, once it was fully warm I noticed a good amount of vibration in the gas pedal
when running under load and under 2K RPM. Pulled in the driveway and it seemed
to shake a bit, opened the hood to look and it seemed fine, not much vibration at
all. It idles at 1000 RPM which might be due to vac leaks?

Also, the brakes seem to need a lot of force as if the assist is not strong.

Took out the air box to do the flap mod, and this flap is about half way
with ambient of about 50 degrees. It doesn't seem to be spring loaded
all the way either way. Is this normal, going to do the mod anyway.

Also, there are two vac hoses to the lid and I see there is not much going
on inside is that a thermal switch depending on intake air temp?
