Sinc eI have to replace a dead coil on my 2000 S70, I'm swapping all the coils from my nicer '99 S70 GLT and I'm going to buy new coils and plugs for the '99. They are all original to the car.
My question is; Since I'm on a budget for this car, is it OK to buy the cheaper coils and plugs, or should I spring for the BOSCH coils? Does it make a big difference in these cars or not really? Any advice would be much appreciated!

It seems that these cars are a bit finicky when it comes to Bosch parts, such as ignition stuff. I'd say spring for the Bosch - it may seem expensive right now, but a lot of trickling streams will make a big river in the end, if you see my point. Buy Bosch once, or buy knock-offs 3 times for the same amount of use.

Either junkyard or ebay used coils.
On ebay, you can buy used coils for about $10/each.
I'd buy a set of 5 from a totaled car.

I went and sprung for a new complete set of BOSCH coils and plugs. I'm not taking any chances and I don't want to go with junkyard pats going into winter. I need to be able to rely on this car otherwise I have to drive my ST and I can't have that!

Yea, I'm going to keep all the good ones in case I need them on either Volvo in the futurecn90 wrote:Keep the old coils in the trunk.
Just throw way the bad coils and keep the good coils in the trunk for emergency.

Whenever I buy a "new" car these days (let's say 2005 XC90), I usually go on ebay and buy a few used coils for cheap, around $10 each.
These come from totaled cars.
They are good to have in my garage simply because if you need it on the weekend, you have it.
Furthermore, local autoparts store sell some aftermarket stuff that I don't trust.
In my opinion, a good used ignition coil is better than a "no-name" coil (I won't go into detail) from local stores.
