I don't wash my car often unless it has salt on it, washing your car too often can cause more harm than good with the moisture. Wax once per year.

Waxing once per year isn't nearly enough to give good protection, especially in a climate like eastern Canada. Traditional waxes have a useful lifespan measured in weeks. A polymer sealant like Klasse will last a few months. There are modern protections that will last close to a year with proper application.

Wash to your heart's desire. It's not going to hurt a car like these that likely sees rain far more often than anyone will wash it. In the winter wash it a couple times a week if you can.

Doesn't the water just freeze unless you have a heated garage?

In the winter, I wash cars when temp is > 5C, even in Montreal.

As long as it's near freezing and sunny, I have never had trouble. I've washed much below that and on occasion had nothing worse than a temporarily frozen door latch. The water is heated in the wash bays. Not much point in washing below about 20F though because the salt becomes pretty much inactive.

That is correct, not many ppl know this. And because of this, a heated garage will cause more corrosion when salt is left on the car.

I think erik11 has a pretty good sense of humor. He's the only one who appreciated my poem PO455 which was written by me just for this audience. It was released on Facebook to great acclaim and was appreciated by all of my fellow wrench head buddies there. One guy here said he would read it to his kid at bedtime. Anyhow, cn90, I also got your meaning. Some people love to work on cars and dont mind doing the same repair twice. I sort of like it, but don't want to spend twice as much time and even more money in the long run due to using a part of unknown quality. I'd rather spend more money and be done with it. The value part- the one with reasonable cost and a long service life is the sweet spot. They are elusive .....
