Timing Belt change

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2 years ago!! It's 100K miles or 10 years; whichever arrives first.

The timing components can probably stay until 100k miles however the rubber should be replaced on time.

While you're in there remove the tensioner and pulley and turn them by hand so you can look for roughness or lack of grease.

I also have a 2004 S80 and I had the timing belt replaced this year at 109k. I had my dealer do it and my mechanic there told me that the belt rarely fails, but one of the wheels it rides on fail causing the belt to go and damaging the engine. I opted for a new water pump which I was told by my advisor only needed to be replaced every other belt change. I believe the belt kit has the new wheels included. The water pump came with a new thermostat housing which is replaced too. I figured 12 years and 109k it would not make sense not to change the water pump too.
