My 960 wagon has just passed the 175,000 mile mark. I have ordered the passenger rear bearing/hub assembly (the correct one, which uses 3 Allen screws to mount it, not four six point screws), and comes with studs, (instead of threads), at the wheel flange. Neither of the auto parts sellers in Gilroy, had the correct part listed to obtain, just the wrong one?
My question is, don't I have to disassemble the I.R.S. to remove the half shaft? I can't seem to find repair steps on that subject?
What is the easier way to disassemble it? And how many miles are the half shafts usually good for? The listing I found for rebuilt shafts is under $100. Should I replace them with the bearings?
That fiberglass leaf spring I.R.S. system was used on only the '95-'97 960's? Or was it also used, unchanged on later models?

And, on CV shafts, if the boot is not torn, there is mileage left. Sometimes, you can buy new boots...but I'd find a repair manual first. Special tools may be required.
