Found Lost Dinosaurs in my oil...
I should say I found the remains of dinosaurs in my oil today.
I changed the oil for the first time since I got this car a few weeks back.
I found chunks! Lots of Carbon Chunks! (Looks like coffee grinds.) Mmmm Dino Squeezins. All in about half a teaspoon.
It looks like the last owner used regular (Cheap) oil instead of Synthetic. The Dino oil turns to carbon at the high temperatures that our (T6) engines operate at.
Also this may suggest that the PVC system is plugged.... Yea.
Who has had this problem? Has the carbon blocked anyone's oil pickup yet?
Link to my Vlog where I go over the chunks of carbon and such. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FEjiWDXkQQ

Wow I was hoping to get some reply's to this thread....
Now my oil light is on!
Guess why..... There is still more carbon (dino chunks) floating around in the engine. Lots of them!
I opened the car up today. Foot to the floor while turning left. let it rev up to 6 where it shifted to 2nd. By then I was at the 60km/hr speed limit. Or over it by 20 or so. So I let off the gas.
About 5 seconds later the oil light came on! And a message said. "No Oil Pressure. Stop car safely". So I pulled off the road and shut it off.
I checked the oil. Fine. Same as 2 days ago when I changed it.
Then I got to googeling. Wow there are a lot of bad oil light stories...

(NOTE: Do not do this if you have never rebuilt your own motor.) I decided to start the car! Yes!
I started it to listen to hear oil starvation... (Cleickety clacking.) I waited... and Waited.
It ran fine. No extra noise. Hmm. Must be pumping oil...

So off I went for about another 45 min drive around town. All the time with the light and the warning on. (Again DON"T!)
I drove very conservatively.
When I got home I dropped the oil.
Found more Dino Chunks! Lots more!
I flushed out the oil pan with compressed air and varsol. Then I pulled the filter. It was the reason for the oil light. Not much was getting through it. It was harboring the Dino Chunks and Dino Sludge. The bottom of the cup had about 1/2 a tsp of very fine sludge. The filter... chunks and sludge.
So I washed and blew out the filter and reinstalled it. Filtered the oil and put it back in.
Test drive was great. No lights. Until.......
I put my foot to the floor again. (I really miss my SAAB 9-5, the car that was replaced by this one.)
Oil light is back on. Now it comes on intermittently. Usually during acceleration. So I drove to the parts store and got a new filter.
My plan is to change the filter every time the light comes on or at least once a week for a while.

Anyone else have a carbon build up problem?

Sounds like your prior-owner did a poor job of changing the oil on time! I run dino oil, but I change it often, (every 3333 miles,) and don't have any trouble with it.

I think you're doing the right thing, flushing and changing the filter as needed. I can't decide if I would do some sort of a chemical flush or not. It would help clean it out, but might also cause other issues like leaky seals. Eventually the chunks will stop, I think, or at least the interval will get longer to the point it's tolerable and only mildly inconvenient.

Thanks Roger.
I just changed the filter and there were more Dino bits in the filter cup. I'm going to cut the filter open later today and see what is inside.
It's draining right now. I'll post photos and a video link when I get it done.
I'm not a fan of regular old Dino Squeezins in turbo charged cars. Our engines just cook that oil. I will however use it for a sacrificial oil. (No not like that.) Engine break in or flush.
The oil that I got out of the filter cup today was full of very fine pieces. I could see it when I swished it around in the pan. That has me thinking that the rest of the oil is going to look about the same.
Hopefully a week of driving in town will filter that out.

I cut the filter open. Full of Dino Chunks! Wow! I was surprised that there was that much stuff floating around in there.
The cup that holds the filter was full of oil and awash with very fine partials.
I'm not sure what has caused this stuff to loosen and become animated. I didn't do a flush or put anything in the oil. I just changed it with new synthetic.
I'll grab a new filter later this week and change it again when I get a chance.
Here is a link to the video I made yesterday. (I make one daily.) The filter autopsy starts at 10:52. Link: https://youtu.be/zRTqaovllVU?t=652

Had a 2002 S80 T6 and a 2002 V70XC with T5. Last fall my S80 was popping the dipstick up an inch. I do good quality oil and filter every 3-4K. However, I read here re the oil sump so I took that apart and drained sludge for hours. Ports were nearly clogged shut. Flushed and replaced. Got my V70 earlier that year in the spring. Changed oil when I got it although it didn't look bad. Figured it was maintained well, due to oil looking good when purchased and previous owner was young man whose uncle was service mgr at a dealer. Evidently from the "do as I say, not as I do" school. In Jan. of this year, without any warning, it blew the crank seal from being plugged. Would have thought the breather cap would have relieved pressure before that happened. About 22 hrs of labor later, that was fixed, then got rear ended and totaled 3 weeks later.

This is the result of extended OCI (Oil Change Interval).
London Ont is cold and with normal city-highway driving mix, I personally would change the oil every 4K miles or so.

I'd consider running some seafoam through the oil, and then dropping the pan for a clean up and o-ring job. If you've got shit in the filter, and shit constantly floating up in the oil, then you've got shit in the pickups too.
