Transponder in key is shot. No funds for new key. Must bypass Topic is solved

Have a 2002 Volvo S60 T5 with a worthless transponder in the only key that came with the car when we bought it used. I need to know how to bypass the immobilizer or the whole factory alarm. Please help it's our only mode of transportation and we have to move it or it will be towed.

This isn't easy on a P2. I don't recall ever seeing this done here

A key and a tow to the dealer will run about 150..which is cheap,in Volvoland

Not saying it's your situation, but that is a tricky question to ask on a forum, same as how to steal a car basically, such information should not be available publicly.

Why do you think the transporter is broken because it's the first time I hear about such issue. Anyway, without transporter there is not way to start the car. And I guess you won't be able to open the door without the alarm to get off.

the chip in key is VERY unlikely to be bad. The antenna ring under the steering column cover snapped around the lock cylinder is likely to have corrosion. That is a common occurrence. Not that the humidity is high and there would ever be salt in the air in CC Texas to lead to terminal corrosion......
The antenna ring can be un plugged and sprayed with WD40 and plugged and unplugged a few times and then put some wwhite grease, vaseline would sort of work but in hot weather it will melt and run out.

What message or messages are you getting when you try to start the engine?

I know the transponder is no good because we took it to a local locksmith and had it tested. they said that it was not sending out a signal. I live in Corpus Christi Texas and there's no Volvo dealership in this town, the closest one is in San Antonio. I don't even have the money to tow it next door

I went to the local junkyard and got a another key and antenna ring and was trying to use both of them to send signal to allow the engine to start and my original key to turn the lock cylinder.
....It did the same thing. I guess the antenna ring is vin specific also.

the alarm is going off( I think ) ,but just the little red light on the dash blinks. Siren doesn't work. Never has. I think the previous owner disabled it.

When siren is disabled red light does not blink. At least if alarm is original.

Respectfully disagree. If a security system's design is sound, publishing the design does not weaken the security. This is the premise behind the ubiquitous SSL security on the Internet. The design is public, the key material is private. Indeed, the more eyes on the design, the better.

If the "security system" amounts to a piece of duct tape over the key hole, then yes, talking about it weakens it - but that's no reason to deprive someone of necessary repair information, especially on a car that's almost old enough to see its first set of boobies.

The manufacturers would love for us all to buy new cars as soon as the old one emptied its first tank of gas. Indeed, Volvo is making overt and drastic moves to kill shade-tree repair as much as possible, and financially hobble indies to the point they can't stay afloat. Let's not encourage them.

That being said, I don't believe a bypass is possible without some serious and deep re-engineering, which may include custom software changes. Even if I knew how to do it, and even if I told the original poster, there's no way it's getting accomplished on the side of the road.

Sorry, buddy, but you're stuck with getting a tow; voluntary or otherwise.
