Volvo Repair Database 95 T-5R Gull Yellow Paint

Post by wackenhut »

So i have been looking online at various pictures of the 1995 T-5R in Gull Yellow and wondering if there is way to tell if a car has the original paint. In some instances I see pictures of them have a very light cream faded yellow look, and then in other instances I see them more yellow. I am not sure if it is the lighting etc, but any help would be great.

Thank you.

Easy way to check for a cheap paint job is to look for ridges in the gap between hood and fender.

You can also compare the color of the outside of the car, to the color of the paint beneath the carpets, or the inside of the fender if it's still in good shape. Any discrepancy between the color on any two points on the car == repainted.

At this age, I kind of expect them all to have at least a little peeling clearcoat if original, unless it was garaged its whole life.

The true color is a pale yellow.

Forget the brighter, intense yellows you sometimes see on the Internet. A couple of those above are in that category.

There are dozens of reasons why the color may have gotten more intense, but none of that matters unless we want to go down a physics and consumer-device (screens) rabbit hole.

To me (my eye, my brain, my laptop display), the last image in your above post looks closest to what the color is in real life. It's not a very intense shade of yellow. In Photoshop-speak, we would say it's got less saturation.

Aren't those last four the same car? Certainly looks like the same parking spot.

Are you sure it isn't just the camera screwing with the color balance? They do that.

Anyway, it's supposed to be the lighter/creamier yellow, not the wasp yellow.

This is one of the colors where the appearance on the photo largely depends on the lighting and the saturatuon settings of the camera. Usually cheap cameras and cellphones are saturated to the max to look WOW to the untrained eye. The top photo for ex. is most definitely photoshopped or strongly enhanced by the camera. I have never seen a green this vivid without enhancements. The bottom photo on the other hand is pretty pale. Might be worn out neon lights or a bad cheapy camera that has it's saturation settings too low.
I wouldn't worry about that if everything else is good.

MyAll of the ones you see in real life, on the road, will have faded panels. I don't think they had clear coat. I have owned 2 of them so far. One about 6 years ago and another now. The one I had a few years ago had a few faded panels. One looked repainted, I think it was scratched and repainted but still looked good after a lot of detailing. Yellow usually on my cloth.

The one I have now clearly has had the hood painted.

Nice looking sled.

Leave it to Volvo to make a pale yellow car attractive, and do it to a collector edition.

Clear coats are nevere used for acryl(or acrylic) paint.....just on metallic paint.

Usually...that's some kind of a rule(more like a standard) in automotive painting world.
