rough idle & vibration when stopped or turning left

Post by nthnnxn »

Please help... I am almost at my ropes end with this V70!
While car is in gear & stopped (and sometimes while in park), the idle is rough! Also while driving straight or turning left (with acceleration) there is plenty of vibration felt from the front end (I think front right wheel area). When turning right, ZERO vibration!
I have replaced these parts in the past month as follows:
BOTH (L & R) front hubs & cv axles. VVT hub & bolt. Tbelt. Belt Tensioner. Idler pulley.
I also noticed the outside of the front right tire is "wearing out", unlike the front left tire that is not.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Nathan

Hows your engine mounts , especially upper?
Did you buy OEM CV axels? A lot of the cheaper ones are bad out of the box.
How is your control arms bushings and ball joints? Struts?
The rough idle is probably a separate symptom from the vibration on acceleration.
Once a tire becomes unevenly worn by bad front suspension parts , its out of round/ bad balance can cause problems on its own.

My 97 850 vibrated badly at a stop until I did subframe bushings.

Does the vibration change when you come on and off the accelerator? When you step on the brake? Any wiggliness in the car, or chasing the wheel to keep it straight, that might suggest a bad suspension component?

It's been my experience that a worn upper engine mount will actually DECREASE vibration, by decoupling the engine from the chassis. Any other motor mount being bad would transmit more vibration, including the lower transmission torque mount.

Any chance the axle didn't seat right in the wheel hub? Were the wheel hubs also OEM?

Did you properly tighten that clamp that goes over the right axle?

Thank you for the reply!
Yes while off the accelerator and turning right, there is no vibration. However, there IS vibration while accelerating straight or turning left. Vibration feels like constantly going ober cracks or ridges in the road. Car will tend to pull to the right, after letting go of the steering wheel while driving & slowing down...
What is proper procedure for tightening clamp on right front cv axle?

When I was doin the hubs and axle replacement... There were no obvious signs of serious wear or malfunction. However, I am NO EXPERT! Is there an easy way to tell if bushings/ball joints/ & control arm are good vs. Bad?

No special procedure for that clamp, it's just easy to forget. It has to line up nicely, of course, but just tighten the bolts.

Vibration during straight line acceleration is characteristic of inner CV joints.

Were they OEM replacement axles, or aftermarket?

All replacement parts I put on are OEM.

I just checked motor mount under crankshaft pulley...and the rubber seperated from the mount when i jacked up the Car via oil pan, only like 1/2 inch worth... It was very obvious. I am assuming that the other side is good. But I am also assuming to replace both lower mounts. Thoughts?
Also. Would this "bad" motor mount I discovered cause both of my issues of Vibration & Rough idle at stops?

It could cause the vibration ,but would not cause a rough idle( as in missing). It might make a normal idle feel rougher though.

I've got the mount ordered... Thank you for the help! See how it goes next week, hopefully a whole lot less vibrations!!
One day I might get this car dialed in...
