Steering Rack Mystery

Post by Greybird1 »

According to the dealer (and other parts suppliers), my 1994 Volvo 940 Wagon has one of three possible steering racks: A CAM type, a TRW type, or a KOYO type. Nobody can tell me how to tell them apart, or identify them. My steering rack needs replacing, and I have to identify its type, before ordering up a new one. Any ideas?

The steering rack with appropriate tie-rod ends should be interchangeable.

TP 31579/1 (240s: 1975-1990) shows three: Cam Gear, and ZF for manual boxes, and Cam Gear TRW (old and newer types) for pwr steering.

There is a way to ID them...
