2001 s60 rotor & brake pad replacement

Post by gammon34 »

Is there any information out there for a DIY--step by step--instructions to replace the rotors and brake pads (front and back) on a Volvo s60?

Do I need a special hex wrench? etc.

If you have done this job on other vehicles you should find it is quite straightforward.

When removing the calipers there is a retaining spring on the outer side which needs to be removed carefully to prevent it deforming. You will need a 7mm hex socket to get the front and rear calipers off. You may also need to slacken the adjustment for the parking brake to get the rear discs off.

Other than that - straightforward.

Thanks for the reply. I've never replaced rotors before so I may need a little more direction. I still have a few options available though. Any more details would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again Bill.

Hi Bill.

One more thing. Could you give me the link you obtained the brake disc documents? It looks as though there is plenty of info there for me to answer any other questions about this little project of mine.

Thanks again!

It was not a link. I have a copy of the old VADIS disc (2005/6) which can be bought legally on eBay. This is the official Volvo disc which has been replaced by the latest version.

Mine was obtained on eBay UK but I think they are also on the US site. I have been told that the UK site is cheaper but I have not checked that info.

Wherever they come from the information covers RHD and LHD so they are fairly universal.
