2005 XC 90 V8 won't start

Post by wgc2005 »

I went to start my V8 XC 90 this evening and all dash lights and headlights came on, but the engine would not turn over. I would turn the key and nothing. I attempted to jumpstart it with cables hooked to a different vehicle. Still nothing. Any help or thoughts what to look for would be appreciated. Thanks.

To be more clear. The lights come on and door dings sound fine. When I turn the key the lights go off, and there are not any clicks or anything, no noises. When I release the key, all the lights come back. Again, there is no clicking noises of any sort when trying to start.

Problem solved. After carefully bridging the two poles on the starter solenoid, the vehicle would turn over, but not fire. This indicated to me that it was an electrical problem that was not "allowing" the vehicle to start and not a problem with the starter. I tried starting the vehicle in neutral to attempt to rule out that switch. This did not work. I then was left with trying a different key. While my wife was getting the second key, I decided to go through all the points where I knew of electrical connections and attempt to ensure they were tight and properly connected. After getting under the driver side and looking at the loom of wires, I noticed that one of the yellow wires was hanging and bare wire was exposed. I also saw a crimped connector on another yellow wire that was not connected to anything. I am sure this didn't come factory and the previous owner must have done something. Anyway, I connected the two wires and everything worked as normal. A foot must have caught the wire either getting into or getting out of the vehicle that caused the connection to come loose.
