Scotty Kilmer - Funny to Watch - AT205 Stop Leak

Post by PeteB »

Watched a few of this guy, Scotty Kilmer's videos and he seems to know his
stuff and is kind of amusing to watch. He suggests AT205 stop leak in a bottle
to fix seal problems in both engines and transmissions:

I am aware that many mechanics say don't use any of this crap, but why not give
it a try? On the other hand, I'd hate to ruin all the seals in the engine. I'm thinking
of using it at 1/4 or even 1/10 strength and over a full oil change period.

The majority of reviews here at summit racing say that it works:

Thoughts? Please no flames.

The rumour says that engine additives makes sludge inside of the engine and that they can do more harm than good on the long run.

I tried Liqui Molly engine aditives and Wynns radiator stop leak in the past on various cars and had zero problems.

While some recommends them....others are against them.Truth must be somewhere in the middle.

my perspective on this to anyone considering it would be: are you just stringing the car along until it's really finished? might as well go for it. it might or might not work, it might or might not have detrimental long-term effects, but it's probably not going to cause immediate catastrophic failure and it might stem the bleeding for a bit. if you know you're never going to Fix It Right, I don't see a lot of harm in fixing it a little wrong.

Depending on application, think sparingly. I poured way too much in to my power steering pump and ruined it almost immediately. So for this purpose, an ounce or two only.

Thanks everyone, while it would be nice to get 5 more years out of it, especially
given all the work put into it, we are never going to "do it right" as far as the crank
seal goes so this might be the trick. I think I'll go a little at a time and see if there
is any improvement in 6 months.
I'd be happy to get 2 to 3 more years.

Did those stop leaks work and did they last?

I've heard good things about that particular ATP stuff from members on here using it for RMS leaks. At least I think that's the one.
Usually, I wouldn't go with much that Scotty Kilmer says, since he's always seemed to be one of those "eh, this will work" kind of mechanics. Like when he said *cue Scotty Kilmer voice* "You can just pour this stuff in your engine and radiator and stop your head gasket leak! And why would you change your head gasket when you can do this for so much less?" Not that he doesn't know what he's doing, but not every car needs a rigged repair. The hack job repairs are for the project cars...

I used some "snake oil" in my 1998 V70R AWD for the RMS. I used an Aussie product made by Nulon.
It stopped the leak, it passed the safety test and I sold the car.

Yes it worked...for a while and then leaked again.Depends on how big the leak is.It certainly can help but can't do miracles.

It has been working for me for my valve stem seals, I am a believer. It doesn't gum anything up, it works on a different principal
