HELP PLEASE!
I was trying to look at the hose(tube) that comes out of the middle of the engine. It seemed to be very dry and brittle. Well, now my car will crank but it idles very rough it will go down so low that it almost dies. Is this a vacuum line? Someone please tell me what I need to get to replace it. I have to go to the Volvo place in the morning so I can drive back to where my car is to fix.
Thanks,
Michelle

**Update**
I found the hose size not any help from Volvo service. But that did not fix the problem. Had to have car towed. He seems to think my Turbo went out..Will update you later when I know more. The only good thing that might have come out of this is that maybe I found a mechanic that can help me. My husband told me to quit trying to be a mechanic

A turbo should have nothing to do with idlingyoungsinauburn wrote:**Update**

Rough idling can often be attributed to a vacuum leak as I've learned from my wagon's problems. Extra un-metered air comes in and the engine is constantly compensating for it. Another causes of rough idling can be a faulty IAC (idle air control) valve or Idle Control Motor. Poking around your car is a great thing to do as long as you generally know what and how you're poking. Also, the hose that you probably cracked is part of the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system which will need to be replaced. You can do a search about these things, learn, fix stuff yourself, save money and have fun. A word from the sometimes wise: cars are complicated sensitive things. Tightening things too much, too little, stripping bolts, or forgetting how things were put together that you took apart among a litany of other boo boos can be disastrous. Also having the right tools, time and information for the job is also really important.
This site is a great resource. Be sure to download the factory service manual (there's a sticky with a link at the top of this forum). Also buying a Haynes repair manual might be a nice eye opener. Friends who fix cars are also a good resource. One of my favorite car repair books is "How to keep your VW alive....."

Even if you don't have VW, this fun to read classic is certainly one of the best car repair books and covers lots of basic topics about how cars work
Good luck.

Update.
I just got a call from the mechanic. He has not had a chance to look it over 100% but he said it looks like its more in the fuel system then Turbo. Lets hope its just the fuel filter not pump.

Could be the fuel filter relay. Good write-up here on fixing one yourself...just takes a bit of resoldering.

Good News(I think)
My car is running again. The mechanic did a tune up but the real problem was my fuel injector. I think I got a good deal it was $120.00 could have been alot more.
I have decided that before I mess with anything I will take pictures so I will have something to go by to put back together.
Thanks for everyones help. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
