Advice on purchasing a 2006 S60? Topic is solved

Hi Everyone! I'm looking to purchase a Volvo S60 with 148K miles on it and I just wanted to know what I should ask the dealer before I make a decision. The cars asking price is $5800 and that's supposed to be tax title license included. I looked up the vin # online but I'm not sure what all the service maintenance records means as far as problems reported with the car or just regular maintenance. The VIN # is YV1RS592862541226 and I used the free vehicle history website. Does anyone know if this seems like a good purchase or maybe help me understand the service record listed on the site. Also what to look for when shopping for cars like this.

Fair if everything has been done.
New timing belt and tensioners
New breather system
New suspension as all are pretty well shot by these miles,
Etc.
Have it checked out by a VOLVO mechanic before you buy anything with those miles

Maybe go to the nearest V dealer or call with the VIN, they may be kind and let you know if the car has a maintenance history

Rip off price, car is not worth more than 3K according to KBB private party value.
I know you are getting it from a dealer but still, I wouldn't pay anything more than what the private party value is unless it comes with some sort of good warranty.
If you can spend 6K on a car, you can buy way better volvos with less miles.

I spent $5500 on '05 S60 with way less miles 4 years ago. Unless the thing was in mint condition with all the service records, I am sure you will get a better deal elsewhere. My experience is watch out for front suspension issues, I've been fighting them since I bought it.

Also, bought a '06 S80 for $5300 with 106k miles in mint condition a year ago.

And I am in CT not TX.

First thing you should do is ask the dealer to provide you with a Carfax. If they refuse, run don't walk away. That does seem like about 2k too much for that car. Have the car checked out by an independent garage if you plan on proceeding knowing you are dishing out 2k too much that you will never recoup.

I guess I'll keep looking. I was told Volvos don't lose much value over time and here in Houston I see quite a few with 130k +miles or over 15yrs old going for 4-5k. From what everyone's saying, cars with that mileage should be 3-4k max?

Take a latex mechanics glove and rubber band with you for the "glove test" on future purchase considerations. This will tell you if you have a PCV system problem which can run upwards of $1200 to fix.

The way you do it is to take off the oil fill cap, place the wrist opening of the glove around the fill next, attach the glove with the rubber band, and start the engine and watch what the glove does...

At idle, the glove should just lay on top of the engine or suck down slightly into the fill tube (don't worry, it won't pull into the engine). Then rev the engine to about 2K rpm... if the glove inflates, you have PCV system pluggage... if it sucks down further into the fill tube, your engine is breathing normally.
