Dear all,
I am new to this forum. I own a 2000 V70 Classic (I guess MK1 or P1). I have a bad battery which I am hoping to replace immediately. I have heard and read different opinions about Volvo V70 battery reconnect procedures. Some say that for the mk1 models, one doesn't need to put the ignition key to II position before reconnecting the battery, (this procedure is for later models only) and others say that one needs to follow this procedure to ensure that srs light could not light up, for which a visit to the dealer is necessary.
Could the experts here point me to the right procedure or even a link to the info? Thanking you all in advance for your time and patience.
Battery removal and reconnect procedure 2000 V70 Classic Mk1 Topic is solved

Neither, P80.
As for the battery, just put it in, hook the negative up first, then the positive, (make sure you know your radio code) and go.
Nothing esoteric here

What JRL said.
I would add that you would want to remove key from ignition or at least to put it to "0" position before removing battery cables and replacing the battery....just in case.
Same thing during re-connecting.

In the spirit of constant learning, I have a question for JRL and misha on battery disconnecting and re-connecting.
I was always taught to remove the -ve cable FIRST and the +ve last. Re-connecting, the +ve FIRST and then the -ve LAST. I have done this for over 40 years and so far no issue, so I am curious why you do the reverse??
Radio code is a first, but don't panic if you lose it as the dealer should be able to get it for you if it is the original using the VIN#. If it is not the original it can still be found from info on the radio casing (needs radio to be removed but takes 2 minutes to do).
Neil.

Hi all,
Thank you all for your support. So I don't need to follow any extra procedures, just follow as usual. But to add to what "scott850" said, I have also followed the same procedure before for other cars; "while disconnecting: -ve 1st and then +ve, while reconnecting, +ve 1st and then -ve". Is this wrong or?!

Doesn't really matter and there is NO CODE whatsoever on the radio, PERIOD!

Yep...it doesn't matter which will be connected first...+ or -.
It is advisable to connect + first,in order to avoid possible short circuit with positive cable somewhere in the engine bay when negative is allready connected to the battery.
If you're careful...it really doesn't matter.

Thanks for the clarification guys. Now the 2000 V70 Classic Mk1 (isn't that a P80?) has no radio code? Is it a P2 or P80? P2 has no code but P80 does. I know in Europe a 2000 model V70 could be a P2. I caused no end of trouble with Rica Tuning when I told them I had a 2000 V70R. Their software wouldn't load until we sorted that one out!!

No need to panic - I don't think that's quite what was written.JRL wrote:Doesn't really matter and there is NO CODE whatsoever on the radio, PERIOD!
Not to mention that many people DO write the code on the radio.scot850 wrote: If it is not the original it can still be found FROM INFO ON the radio casing

I have also followed the 'remove + last and reconnect + first' and no issues here.
