Cut "Coolant Pipe" into 5 Pieces with Hacksaw

I removed the "Red Steel Coolant Pipe" without any problems from my 92 Volvo Turbo wagon (easy part). Now here comes the (difficult part) I have looked throughout the forum without any luck... I have a suspicion the installation will not be easy.

Parts removed so far:

-- Removed all rubber hoses to the cooling system.
-- Removed Inter-cooler and all hoses to the turbo system.
-- Removed Thermostat and radiator.
-- Removed Oil cooler with Banjo adapter.
-- Removed Coolant drain pipe.
-- Removed Aluminum heat shield from passengers side fire wall.
-- Almost forgot the "Red Steel" coolant pipe.

Does anyone have suggestions and or experience with installing the Coolant Pipe?

I'd remove intake manifold

I rebuilt a 1984 B23F engine, but of course, placement of coolant pipe was done with engine out of vehicle.

Isn't the coolant pipe on the exhaust side of the block?

Thank you for both replies... I'm pondering bending the 90 degree angel in the pipe to about 70. I should then be able to guide coolant pipe between the exhaust header pipe and firewall. I would be bending the pipe by heating with a torch (MAPP) gas. I'm worried about caching the engine on fire along with the new responses stating Remove the exhaust manifold!

Correct...considering the pill it is to hook up on intake side, he might as well take off intake manifold, and replaces heater hoses/etc. there.

Per my first post... I have removed all my cooling hoses. My neighbor stopped by and said I should be able to remove the header along with oxygen sensor from the exhaust manifold. I'm not sure how to remove the header from the manifold, however there defiantly would be more than enough room.

I'm going to take pictures of each step involving installing the "Coolant Pipe". It seems to me that the coolant pipe on 740's are not replaced often.

I'll let you know my progress removing the header from the exhaust manifold.

Does anyone know if it's possible just to remove the header pipe? I checked the space between the firewall & the block with the new coolant pipe and it looks good. I'm confident their will be enough room to install the pipe, especially with all the parts currently removed from the car.

Someone with a flat-rate shop-time booklet might. Like replacing a heater core and fan-motor in a 240, installing them is some 7 hours or so, iirc, flat-rate time, if done the Volvo way.

I assume that pipe will slide thru exhaust side, but I've never been down this road; and if I did, removing exhaust/intake is not a pill for me...I just do it.

Thanks for the reply "93Regina"... yes your correct the header pipe slides out of the exhaust manifold. 4 bolts along with an o-ring secure the header/manifold toegather.

My game plan is to remove: Remove 4 bolts holding the header pipe to the exhaust manifold... remove the Oxygen sensor, along with header support mount located at the engine block/automatic transmission seam.

Will post my results... working on pictures, however they are getting rejected somehow.

Installed the pipe with the shrink wrap still installed... just in case I had to return the pipe. The following items were taken off the engine in order to install the pipe:

Oil drain pipe coming from the bottom of the turbo unit, going into the block.
Oil line going from the engine block, to the turbo unit. Pipe is located just above the turbo drain pipe.
Oil cooler adapter and extension or "Banjo"... you know it has the 32mm bolt.
Spark plug wires
Distributor cap, rotor and distributer base unit.
Header pipe's heat shield... made of aluminum, located on the firewall.

The pipe was routed in aft of the heat shield and under the header pipe. Make sure the pipe's 90 degree bend is pointing up towards the valve cover... as you guide the part under the header exhaust pipes towards the water pump. Right around this time is when the plastic was removed.
