When braking and the AT downshifts from 3d to 2nd, a distinct "clunk/slap" is felt.
Local mechanic after testing the car and checking AT linkage, driveshaft and the rear suspension, said that rear trailer rod bushes are the real culprit. He further stated that replacing torque as well as the rear stabiliser (trackrod) bushes should be done at the same time. To me however it sounds as if there was something loose in the driveshaft assembly, which incidently felt loose.. Bushes did not look so bad but of course I have never worked with them so its hard for me to judge. The car incidently has brand new shocks and struts installed by me personally. Anyone with similar problem and/or suggestions, please respond. Thanks.

The bushes you mention can cause problems with gear changes when they are worn. The back axle tends to move out of line slightly.
One other thing to check is the drive shaft support bearing. The drive shaft has three universal joints and the support bearing is just to the front of the middle UJ. If there is play on this then the drive shaft will move around in the support.
Bill.
