2006 XC90 V8 4.4 Transmission Question

Post by cuhfs »

Just this week got a 2006 XC90 with 130K miles. It has a transmission flare / issues, and it seems like the drain and fill will be needed as a first step. Procedure seems like a extremely more complex then my older Volvo's. Can some one post a pic of where the transmission fluid Fill bolt is or advise the fill procedure tips etc...

My concern and reason for this post is that I don't want to unbolt the wrong bolt and disengage internal bands. I can use some "idiot proofing" by having clear directive pictures for re-filling the transmission and any tips on draining or flushing. I do understand a-lot has been posted and I have read it all... sorry but I was hoping for a couple of really good pics of the fill location and drain location bolts for the slower folks like myself :? . Thanks in advance for any help with simplifying this task. other models its easy access and easy identification of the parts. Need to get confident with fixing up this late model beauty. Thanks

Posting this picture to help the next person. I am new to the XC90 and new to the MVS XC90 forum. I am active on the MVS 850/V70/C70 forum. Seems like the XC90 forum it is not as active (7000 posts for the group) as the 850 forum (270,000 posts for the group) and that's unfortunate since it makes for a great time and money saver; and nice Volvo enthusiast comradery. I answered for myself the question I posted... using another forum for the help since no response here  . Hope more people join and participate in this one so it becomes as useful as the MVS 850 forum has been to me.

Swedespeed has a few posts on trans fluid changes and the pre-06J serial number TF-80SC transmission valve body problems. I regularly post MVS links over there so see no reason I ought not to be able to post the XC90 forum sticky which has these http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread ... uot-Thread.

*Added note- Can do this also as drain/fill, however you want, so long as what comes out goes back in as there is a procedure of sorts to determine level after the fact on the TF and it requires checking from under the car, hot with engine running. On the 5-speed (2.5T), there's a dipstick.

cuhfs, thanks so much for posting your picture! That’s exactly what I was looking for, as a new member! One more question: do you happen to have a picture if the drain/level check position? Thanks in advance!
