2002 S60 2.5T P0017 after timing belt change
So I changed the timing belt on the S60 this weekend. And got the p0017 crankshaft position sensor error. I took things back apart and double checked all the marks, they are all exactly lined up. Motor runs fine. I even tried to move the VVT came back a tooth as I have seen people say this resolves their issues. I still have it. Does anyone know how many teeth of the belt should be between the 2 marks on the cam gears?

i'm sure it has to do with me doing the timing belt. I should have marked the belt before taking it off, I just went with the factory marks.

Achhh, yes , you HAVE to use touch up paint to mark the cam sprockets Beforehand, especially if they have the CVVT setup.
You'll probably have to baseline it now.

If all you did was replace the belt (and possibly the tensioner), and you didn't disturb the sprockets/hubs attachment to the camshafts, then you can ignore all the talk about winding the hubs this way and that way, etc. Just get the three sprocket marks on target. See this video:
Note that he didn't even mention worrying about the VVT.
Since you're getting p0017 crankshaft position sensor error, my guess is that the cam sprockets are positioned properly in relation to each other and it's the crank that's a bit out of whack. If you move the belt one tooth on the crank sprocket, then it moves the crank one tooth (obviously). But if you move the belt one tooth on both cams, then it moves the crank 1/2 tooth.

I never felt confident about that timing mark on the crank. Illustrations showing various score/notches that may be present on different engines simply wasn't there on mine. There may have been a small notch on the inside of the gear toward the engine block but it was so subtle I was having trouble differentiating that tooth on the gear from the next. I had marked the crank pulley in relation to the RH engine mount with a drop of paint on each before I removed the original belt. I'm glad I did that.daverdfw wrote:It was the crank that was off somehow.

I have a 2006 S60. The notches on my crank are so small I need to shine a light directly at the gear and stare while turning the crankshaft. I had the whole thing apart when I was changing the oil pump gasket and I looked for marks and didn't see them. They were there, I just didn't see em. No I know where they are and I can spot them like I said.
