1996 850R Slight Shake in Steering above 65mph

Post by wackenhut »

Hi,

I just had a tire rotation/balance (front to rear) and noticed that the steering wheel slightly shakes above 65mph. I never felt this before the tire rotation. The tires are practically new and I took it back to the shop to check the balancing and everything came out fine. If anyone can help, that would be great.

I am going to try and have the wheels put back to how they were before and see if this solves the problem, but wouldn't they be able to tell if a wheel is bent when they go to balance the tires?

Thank you!

A bent wheel might not be caught depending on the skill level of the machine operator. You can get the wheels road force balanced which is quite expensive to rule out tires and wheels. You would need to find a non chain company to do the road force since the chains usually don't have the proper training to fully operate the machine correctly as I've experienced first hand.

I would put the tires back into the original position and see if the shake goes away. If so, you narrowed it down to one or both rear wheels/tires. Could have a bent wheel or a bad tire.
