96 850R intermittent rough idle at start and Low Gear Light

Post by wackenhut »

Hi,

So I have had an intermittent rough idle on a warm engine. Usually during a start that is about an hour after sitting. It has never fully stalled out however I did notice something interesting tonight. I let the engine idle rough for about 4 seconds, and then I saw an indicator light on the instrument cluster come on for a second which is the yellow up arrow. This light usually comes on if the transmission is put in Low Gear. Has anyone had this experience? I have been trying to figure out the culprit for this rough idle...when it does occur, it lasts about 5 seconds on average.

Thank you!

Could the arrow come on because the engine almost dies amd the voltage drops? Can't think of any other explanation except for the arrow unless the AT is the cause (stuck solenoid keeping the wrong gear (like 2nd or third) and thereby causing too much resistance for idle).

Just throwing this out there but perhaps the torque converter isn't disengaging like it should which is causing the engine to bog down.

You need the transmission codes read to see what set the light; is it still on btw?

In the mean time check the fluid level and quality. If it's extremely low that could certainly cause issues.
