My 2007 Volvo V70 2.5T (~100k miles) has developed an issue. The 'Transmission Service Required' popped on a couple of weeks ago when the car was started. It drove normally. I checked the codes when I got home and they read P0700 and P0705. I read that the Winter button can become sticky and cause a code to be thrown. I checked it and the button would indeed stick when depressed and not release properly, so I followed all battery disconnect procedures to clean it as best I could with contact cleaner. I cleared the codes and all was well over the last week or so.
I drove the car about five miles this morning for an errand and everything was good. When I started the car back up, the yellow arrow, message, and check engine light came back on. I can't swear that one of us didn't nudge the Winter button when getting situated in the car. The button seems to depress and release, but it would not light up when depressed after multiple attempts. The car further more drove like it was in Winter mode (is this limp mode?). I stopped the car, turned it off, and it drove the same. I then stopped again and went into Geartronic; however, the light stayed on for Drive. I turned it off again and was able to get into Geartronic and all was well when shifting up and down manually. At a stop light, I went back into Drive and all was normal and the light for Winter mode would activate and deactivate as it should. I used my newly acquired VIDA+DICE to pull the codes and ended up with TCM-0039 and ECM-5130.
Here is some info from VIDA for my TCM-0039 code:
No fault found by the DTC Test during current operation cycle but previously.
Signal A high
Signal B high
Signal C high
Signal PA low
Counter 1 Started operation cycles since fault was last found - 3
Counter 2 2 cycles (No. of driving cycles with completed test without validated fault)
Counter 3 All operation cycles since the fault was found the first time - 5
Counter 4 Confirmed operation cycles with active fault - 2
I have purchased a case of Toyota T-IV to do a series of drain and fills, as I don't believe the ATF has ever been changed. The fluid looks fairly good for having 100k miles and does not smell burnt. It was 0 degrees this morning, so I'd have a hard time imagining the ATF was overheating after a few miles today and not when it was 50 degrees and driven more.
I am looking for any tips in troubleshooting this, as the transmission feels normal at all times with the exception of Winter or limp mode this morning. Thanks for any assistance.
Transmission Issue (TCM-0039)
Fast forward and the car has done well for five years and only has ~125k miles. Had some more issues pop up. I had Transmission Service Required pop up within the first mile of driving and went into limp mode. I pulled the following codes:
ECM-5130 MIL TCM
ECM-614B Exhaust camshaft control - Faulty
CEM-1A03 S-Power supply Signal too low
TCM-0101 Shift Solenoid S3 Signal too high
The car had sat for a week or so without running. Timing belt/tensioner were replaced at ~95k miles in 2016. I cleared the codes for now and will see if/when they return. Thanks for any thoughts!

I'd say you need a new PNP switch Mr Galt.. I just replaced mine on my 2004 V70 R.. showed the same message and acted like it was in winter mode. I'd get one from Volvo if it was me... That's what I did..MDK
