Off Topic: Bottled beer in freezer?

Post by blackstarpower »

If you left a bottle of beer in the freezer, say bud light, will it freeze completely and break the bottle?..or just freeze and not break the bottle?..or not freeze at all and just get ice ice cold?

You did not give us enough variables!

Variable #1 is freezer temperature.

Variable #2 is time in the freezer.

At any rate, I don't drink Bud Light - Johnny Walker Red Label will not freeze nor will it break the bottle. It may break the bank but not the bottle.

Freezer is pretty cold, but not a deep freezer or anything. Don't know the temp., as it is an older one. I am talking about just leaving them in there for whenever you want a really cold one. My fridge is turned up pretty high but I want my beer to be even colder, but without freezing everything that is in my fridge.

I left one in the freezer the other day for about 2 hours. The outside just frosted and the inside was cold, but liquid. I was just curious if I left it in there longer would the whole thing freeze up and break the glass?

Cheap sh*t beer like bud light is mostly water...if it is deep frozen it will freeze and pop the top off....or break the bottle depending on the temp (how fast it freezes). Go with a beer with more alcohol content if you don't want to break the bottle but form slush in it.

Good luck! This is what I spend my time doing for sure

I have never seen a beer break the bottle, but I have seen it get solid enough to not be drinkable. I think all beer has enough water to freeze if you leave it long enough. You will never get alcohol to freeze though, it's solid temperature is about -175 F/ -73C.

yeah, I've frozen a few beers by accident. Put a couple of bottles of Lone Star (the national beer of Texas) in the freezer, was already drunk, and forgot they were up there for a few days as I went back to the fridge instead to get those beers, totally forgetting until a few days later I found a cracked frozen Lone Star. Not spectacular mind you, just cracked and leaky and frozen.
I put Guinness up there all the time in that awesome can it comes in and it never freezes.
If you want to test it out try cans of your Bud Light or PBR, or you can look for those nifty aluminum "bottles" for bud and bud light. I bet they could do a good job, probably would at worst pop the top.
My suggestion is to put a big thick glass or two in the freezer and pour your cold beer in there. It gets it really cold and icy. MMM... could use one of those today, it is Saturday, perfect for working on the car...Gotta go to the store now.
