CEL -Suspect PCV Again

Post by Crumpler »

Hey Guys, sanity check please.
Wife's car, I did the PCV kit replacement around 1.5-2 years ago I think.
I'm now getting a CEL, and pulled codes PO101, PO170. Car running fine.

I think these were the same codes I got when the PCV was full of sludge last time.
The car chews through a lot of oil, in my mind, but I have not quantitated.
So I'm thinking it's full of sludge again.
I guess my plan was to tear it down and look...if that is what it indeed sounds like to the forum.
Can it happen again so quickly and is there and option to just replace the black box and clean, without doing the whole kit...I remember that line being a PITA.
Would you look a anything else first?

Wondering, did the oil passage inside the oil pan check clear when the pcv box was out?

Short driving distances is what clogs the pcv system the most, even synthetic oil is not a 100% fix

My memory is that it did. My recollection doing the pcv box was that it was about 80% occluded where it meets the block.

The only thing I did so far was drain about a quart of oil off the car. I found that the oil had been over-filled some what.
I erased the codes and they have not reproduced with normal driving. I vented the dip stick slightly.

I have not had a lot of time to research the concept, are there any credible after market vent systems, NA v. turbo?
