Major electrical issues, any help appreciated

Post by jenkinskg »

I Just got an s60 with problems, was cheap so I thought I would try to he a hero.
2002 s60 AWD 2.4T

Was told it had blown head gasket, I think maybe old timing belt skipped, this was original thoughts and what I was told
Finally got into trunk, may have original 02 battery?
Car only has 49K miles and was sitting a long time

Tried to fire it up, just connected battery and ac fan running, and all kinds of weird behavior without key in yet
Turn key and it tries to turn, maybe even fires a bit, afraid to try too hard in case timing has skipped.
No speedo or daks at all, ac fan and controls don't respond at all, many lights staying on without key, left battery disconnected overnight

I found some jumper wires from previous people messing around, those jumpers were going to a few diff fuses
I will put all wires and fuses back without jumpers.

I am suspecting CEM
I have access to another car the seller had, was going to get head and cem and anything else he allows me to take

Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated, I have vida so will have more info soon

I think I would pass on a P2 with electronic hacks - these things are too complicated for that. Maybe if you have a good supply of weekends to tinker and VIDA you can have a go at this.

Remember, any module you buy you have to marry to the ECU with software, nothing is plug and play

OK, update

Removed CEM, looked it over, all looks clean and good
Put it back,
Then went to look at the cluster, pulled trim and bolts.
Found cluster unplugged
Plugged it back in only check engine light works?

Pulled cluster, looked over all boards and chips, looks very clean
Put it back in, with battery unplugged.

Now with all modules plugged in, attached neg battery connector

All is working, ac, radio, seats light and remotes!!!

Still have no guages at all, engine still not starting next on check items
Seller claims was overheated, I think it is jumped timing belt, either way I have a spare head if needed and another cluster to try.

Can I test my cluster on my 04 s60 2.5t, without weird things happening?

FYI the jumper wires I originally saw were just previous owner running power to cig lighter
so I am looking good for now

Does anyone know a fuse or breaker or module that stops speedo cluster from showing signs of life?

OK, got vida working, I may have a canbus error of some kind.
I am getting errors from all over the map.
I was thinking of trying to unplug items like windows, and mirrors and seats to see if the errors stop and I get normal funtions.
DIM still has no display, 2 different dim assemblies have been tried
Any suggestions are appreciated
