Hi,
The car is 55 plate, 2.4 Diesel, and has 72,000 miles on clock.
When the engine revs the noise happens, it doesn't do this when idle, only when throttle is used. Even when in neutral the noise occurs. Any ideas?
Also, bit of a general question: How long does it take for a car to generate quite a bit of wear on the steering wheel and gear stick. It's old but has a warranted fairly low mileage so I'm a little suspicious it might be clocked.
Thanks in advance!

55 plate translates to a late 2005 build or 2006 MY for us here.... I think.
Can you describe the noise a bit better? Does it happen on revving or when revs fall?

As for the wear, I would rather look closely to the drivers seat, either the upper or the lower side cushions - depends how the person gets inside the car. If driven mostly city - in and out of the car more often and also more wear for the same miles, the leather surface tends to wear after 80k miles but won't rip. A steering wheel with lots of 'shine' where hands sit I would say has seen above 120k miles with lots of city driving.
So just a bit a wear of the steering/shifter seems just fine to me @70k miles
This is the easiest car to falsify the odometer, however the real miles are stocked inside the computer and cannot be modified - a Volvo dealer will make a pleasure to read them for (more than) a few quids.
