My PCV system seems to be clogged. One of the things I'm seeing is what appears to be an oil leak at the engine rear main seal :(

Any chance that once I rebuild the PCV system (using all new parts) that the rear main seal leak will "go away" -- or is it permanently damaged now and will require replacing?

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,

I could lie to you and tell you that the PCV will fix it all but my guess is that it won't. 8)

Oil leaks can, however, be funny and deceive you into thinking you have a blown RMS when it is actually oil trailing down from the top of the motor. There is no duplication in labor redoing the PCV and changing the RMS. Do the PCV first. Degrease the motor and then reassess the Rear Main leak. Don't do it the other way around and change the RMS before the PCV or you will risk blowing the RMS all over again.

I hear ya'...

I was just *hoping* that someone else may have had a similar issue and said "yeah, once the pressure in the crankcase was reversed, the rms leak went away".

Given my luck on automotive repairs I should have known better
