Intermittent AWD in 06 XC90

Post by Oabbott »

Hi All:

I'm having some trouble with the AWD on my wife's 2006 XC90 2.5T. In brief, the AWD only works intermittently. And with a quarter mile unpaved driveway that at points its 50 degrees in incline--in Vermont--this is a problem.

After ruling out the angle gear (driveshaft still spinning, no grinding noises), attention was turned to the Haldex. Since the computer had codes stored indicating problems with the pump, I had the pump, filter, and fluid replaced.

Naturally, however, this seemingly did nothing--aside from eliminate the DEM codes. So now I'm left with intermittent AWD and no indication from the computer what the problem could be.

I should note that I have also tried cleaning the contacts on the wiring harness that contacts to the DEM. I have also checked the REM, and it is working fine.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Oliver

Update:

With DSTC off, the AWD will engage but it takes a few seconds of the front wheels spinning uselessly before it will happen.

Theories?

I had this issue on a 2007 3.2L. It was the Steering Angle Sensor.
