Failed directional lights and driving lights 1998 S70 T5

Post by tincatinca »

My indicators (direction signal) lights and headlights have begun to go dead in mid journey. It is an intermittent fault. If I pull over, turn the ignition off and restart, the problem disappears - until it happens again. I have checked and reseated the fuses. Although the indicator lights do not function, the hazard warning lights work normally. Anyone any ideas?

Mieage on the vehicle would help.

The next time this happens try jiggling the ignition key a bit. Try rotating clockwise/counterclocwise SLIGHTLY ( don't reingage starter while the engine is running ) but NOT WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING.

To elaborate further, it sounds like the electrical portion of your ignition switch is failing. It often results in the radio going into "code" mode as well as the funky lights and turn signals.

Many thanks for your input. Car has 110,000 mls. on the clock. Temporary solution has been to pull over and switch the engine off and on again. This ties in with an ignition switch fault.
