Just to chime in- this is the "Pinned" post regarding the panels. It includes the Panelpads that are now being sold as well as possible other solutions. There is a link in each of the other 4 threads with this topic to this thread.

I used a high temp hot glue gun in my 850... problem is solved. And it can be removed without damaging the rest of the door panel

Buuuuuut the 850 door panels don't have the same vinyl laminate, so it never comes loose, and you couldn't have fixed it with hot glue or anything else ... :D

My repaired and refinished R inserts (picture of one).
In person the color is exactly what I wanted and they look great!

The insert in my door panel has a cardboard like backing that was broken, was like that in my 95 as well. And i absolutely glued it back on, why is this so unbelievable? Hot glue will bond anything, and im not talking about any hobbystore glue. Its a little stronger

Sorry to be unclear, I do believe you fixed them sure. But the 850 is a completely different issue due to a very different door panel design. An 850 door panel insert is easy to fix. But this thread is about the 98+ door panels, and for a 98+ the hot glue won't help.

850 door panels have a separate cardboard insert, x70 door panels have full vinyl laminate. Look at the pictures in this thread, compare them to your 850's, you will see the difference.

Ok i see sorry to corn-fuse. I have had a similar problem in an 01 jetta where the material de laminates from its base. For that i used contact cement, made a mess and wont try it again! Lol

Several years ago an indy presented a interesting idea. First the 'bubble' is slit, then scissored & pleated to lay flat, then glued down. Next a piece of real leather in a darker color is trimmed, pressed & glued on top of the entire center section.

But I haven't done this.....

I like the earlier idea presented here about screwing down a center overlay, then sticky taping the new inner surface to the backer. Using a heat gun before stretching the loose vinyl back into place also makes sense.

Love the photo of the repaired R-door above. Interesting and original. Never seen nor been inside one myself, thus not at all familiar with the interior details/differences.

Hello guys! Just to save you many ruined door panels, please do not try to glue the panels back in shape other than completely disassemble your panels for thorough renovation. In the first research stages of Panelpads we tried injecting glue also on the video featured Classic on our website.... luckily the ruined spot is now almost completely covered by the new Panelpads kit, but that is just a matter of sheer luck....
