Timing belt replacement

Post by mlanctot »

Volvo V70XC
Can't seem to get the belt over the cams. FCP supplied the correct belt. Doesn't seem long enough.
I've set the belt adjuster to the most slack position.
Suggestions.

Others have run into the wrong belt from FCP. List up the part number (not on the box but on the belt) and let the other members take a look. If you adjusted the tensioner out or took it off, the belt should fit as long as it's correctly over the lower cam gear.

I'll take it off the main pulley and see. The FCP part number is CRP-tb331, thats what is on the box.

The belt says 331. Appears to be correct. I'll try again.

The belt is installed first on all lower pulleys including the tensioner, then on the intake cam pulley (one towards front of the car), then as the final step over the exhaust cam pulley (the one closer to the windshield. The belt should not be 'hanging' between the cam pulleys or between the crank and the water pump pulleys, make sure all teeth on the belt are properly engaged over the pulleys. It should fit without effort with the tensioner fully released.

To completely release the tensioner (belt adjuster) see at 1:16
